South Park has had some new additions since the beginning of the year. We are so lucky to live and work in a neighborhood that is always improving and becoming more established. The businesses at Beech St. and 30th St. got a new neighbor just after the first of the year. Stehly Farms Market decided to focus on their other efforts and Sacred Juice took over their storefront at 2967 Beech St. While you can still find Stehly Farms organic fruits and veggies in the store, the Sacred Juice team will be serving up smoothies, acai bowls and cold pressed juices. We caught up with the owner of this unique juice bar and got the scoop on what led her to success. Meet Jenna, the inspiration…the entrepreneur…the lady behind the juice.
Jenna K: Sacred Juice was born two years ago in my home kitchen. It started off as a part of my lifestyle, helping me to lose over one hundred pounds. I constantly prepared fresh juices to take with me to work as a way to stay healthy. Co-workers and friends started requesting my homemade juices, and it really took off from there. When my mom suddenly passed away last year, it really lit a fire in me to turn this into something bigger, something to make her proud of. South Park was a dream location and I am still pinching myself today. The stars aligned perfectly for this one.
Jenna Gumto: How would you present juicing to someone with no knowledge of it?
Jenna K: Juicing is an easy way to shower your body with concentrated amounts of nutrient-packed fruits and vegetables. With so many different types of juices available on the market today, one can think of us as the Rolls-Royce of cold pressed juices. We are one hundred percent organic, cold-pressed with no-hpp processing. Meaning, you get the best quality foods for your body all in one 16oz bottle.
Jenna Gumto: What is your best advice for anyone looking to embark on juicing?
Jenna K: Many people are a bit hesitant to ‘drink’ their vegetables. I say, keep an open mind about taste and combinations. Start off with something you know, like fruit juices. Then start adding vegetables. After a short time, you will be adding superfoods like chia seeds, maca, hemp and vegan proteins and spirulina. If you have never done a juice cleanse before, or are thinking of trying one, I always tell my clients that they can do anything for three or five days. Many people will do longer cleanses, even up to thirty days. The first few days are a mental game and it is all about staying focused and remembering why you started. There is no greater feeling than the amount of energy and mental clarity you will walk away with after completing one of our cleanses.
Jenna K: Holy Kale, Royal Flush, and Wet Dream. I have a little too much fun when it comes to naming our product. But hey, I’m all about making it fun! All of our produce is 100% organic and locally sourced. We work directly with Stehly Farms Organics and Better Life Organics as our produce suppliers.
Jenna Gumto: What kinds of health benefits come with juicing?
Jenna K: There are so many! Number one, better overall eating habits. Over four pounds of organic produce are packed into every single bottle of cold pressed juice that we sell. Your body is being flooded with powerful nutrients, enzymes and amino acids. These work together to strengthen your immune system, give you energy, clear your skin, speed up your metabolism, boost your digestion and reverse cancerous cells.
Jenna Gumto: What can you expect to find at Sacred juice, besides juice?
Jenna K: When you walk into Sacred Juice, it is filled with beautiful colors of fresh organic vegetables and fruit; aromatic candles, smiling faces, energetic employees and superior customer service. We sell what we juice! From organic rainbow chard to sweet blood oranges, we have it all. Aside from the cold pressed juices available in our grab and go fridge, we also have a fresh custom juice and smoothie bar if you are feeling adventurous. We’re also known for our tasty "balls", made from our recycled almond pulp and pulp-py-treats made from our juice pulp to keep your fur babies healthy and glowing too. For the meat eaters, we have you covered as well; we carry local organic grass fed meats and eggs.
Jenna K: Being able to offer a full line of organic produce in the location where we juice is pretty awesome. I have never been to another juice bar like ours. We keep it fun and provocative. We create out-of-the box marketing and advertising, and our crazy names for each juice have customers curious to come in.
Jenna Gumto: Is it a diet or lifestyle?
Jenna K: A lifestyle. There is no fad about real food. Being able to educate our customers on the importance of eating healthy is my main goal. A healthy outside starts from the inside. With all of the GMO and processed foods that surround us and the amount of people who are sick, people are starting to take note of what they are really putting into their bodies.
Jenna Gumto: What will you do to sustain business if the trend tapers off?
Jenna K: Keep on rockin! I think when you put your heart and passion into your work people gravitate towards it. I have big plans ahead of me and this is just the beginning.
Jenna Gumto: How is the neighborhood responding to your new business?
Jenna K: They have welcomed me with open arms! I am so lucky to have such an amazing neighborhood to call home! Everyone has given me great feedback and I love seeing all of my regulars everyday. We can not wait to kick off our grand opening party this July and celebrate!
